Marriage Act 1929
This is the act which increased the age at which people could get
married to 16. Prior to that (relatively recent) date a girl could
marry at age 12 and a boy at age 14...
The corresponding change was not made until 1951 in Northern Ireland,
and 1972 (effective 1975) in the Republic of Ireland.
Age of Marriage Act 1929 - Legal Banter
US: Throughout most of the 19th century, the minimum age of consent for sexual intercourse was 10 years old. In Delaware it was seven.
Twelve states, as late as 1930, allowed boys as young as 14 and girls as young as 12 to marry with parental consent.
Adult and their children that were forced into slavery could not marry, there right were taken away. But their "owners" would rape some of them with little care for the age.
